Drone strikes on airbases in Russia on Monday, particularly one in the Ryazan region, just 150km from Moscow, have raised questions about the “depth” of the conflict, Al Jazeera’s Ali Hashem reported from Moscow.
While Ukraine has not yet confirmed it was behind the attacks, which also hit a base in Saratov region and killed three military personnel, they would represent the farthest strike into Russian territory since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24.
Russia launched a series of missile strikes following Monday’s attack.
“There are questions over if this is the only response, or if there will be another kind of retaliation in a different way,” Hashem said.
