Manchester City’s pursuit of Erling Haaland has advanced significantly, with the club reaching an agreement with the player’s representation.

Sportsmail knows that a suitable financial deal has been approved, making Haaland the Premier League’s highest-paid player on more than £500,000 per week.

City are now set to activate the 21-year-old striker’s £63 million release clause at Borussia Dortmund, and if all goes well, a five-year agreement could be completed within the next week or two.

Dortmund stated last week that nothing had been agreed upon and that they were seeking a resolution with others in the hunt, notably Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

There was a chance the player’s contract might be extended for another year. City, on the other hand, has stayed quietly confident throughout the process and is now closing up on the prolific striker manager Pep Guardiola desires.

The Spaniard lost out on signing Harry Kane last summer, and despite leading the Premier League, City have looked short up front at times.
