Following the fatal attack in Kashmir, India’s Operation Sindoor escalates tensions with Pakistan. In a significant escalation of hostilities, India launched “Operation Sindoor” on 7 May 2025, conducting coordinated air and missile strikes on nine locations within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. In response to the terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including Indian and Nepali nationals, the operation was carried out. Operation Sindoor launched a series of air and missile strikes after India claimed responsibility for the attack, which was carried out by militant groups with bases in Pakistan. The Indian government stated that the strikes targeted training camps and logistical hubs associated with militant groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. Key targets included areas in Muridke and Bahawalpur, known for housing militant group facilities. Within 24 hours of the strikes, India reported that approximately 70 terrorists had been eliminated. Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war,” reporting 26 civilian deaths and 46 injuries. The Pakistani government claimed that the Indian strikes targeted civilian areas, including mosques and residential buildings. In response, Pakistan authorized its armed forces to undertake “corresponding actions,” claimed it shot down five Indian jets, and reported exchanges of heavy artillery and gunfire across the Line of Control. 
The escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors deeply concerned the international community. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and U.S. officials, including President Donald Trump, urged restraint and called for a peaceful resolution. Russia, China, and other global powers also called for diplomacy and de-escalation.
One of India and Pakistan’s most significant recent military conflicts is known as Operation Sindoor. It demonstrates the ongoing volatility in the Kashmir region and India’s shift toward a more assertive response to cross-border terrorism. The international community is keeping a close eye on the situation, as both countries continue to engage in combat.
