Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was furious with the referee’s actions at the end of Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Real Madrid even though Los Blancos won 5-4 on aggregate.
Tuchel said the referee acted inappropriately after the final whistle. The German said he went to the referee to thank him but found him laughing with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Tuchel said: “I was disappointed that the referee had a good time with my colleague Ancelotti.
I know that Carlo is a gentleman and a nice guy and when I go I see him smiling and laughing out loud with the opposition coach and I think this is very, very wrong time to do this at the end of 120 minutes of fight, when you give every last drop, to go [and see that].
I think this is very, very bad timing. I told him that, and that is it.”
Defending Champions League Chelsea were leading the tie 4-3 when Rodrygo equalized.
That led to extra time as Karim Benzema scored the winner for Real Madrid and sent them to the Champions League semi-final.
