Donald Trump has revealed that Marco Rubio is currently serving as his security advisor, with Mike as the security advisor. Rubio will maintain his role as Secretary of State. The president also stated that he has appointed Waltz as the US ambassador to the United Nations. He shared on social media: “Throughout the days of facing challenges on the battlefield, during my time in Congress, and in the role of my national security adviser, Mike Waltz diligently prioritized our nation’s interests. “Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as a national security adviser while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department. Together, we will relentlessly work to restore safety for America and the world.” Waltz had earlier expressed “full responsibility” for mistakenly including journalists in communication groups regarding military strategies in March. He mentioned that he felt embarrassed since the plan was discussed after news emerged about an attack on the Houthi militants in Yemen, following the incident being leaked to the Atlantic, where Jeffrey Goldberg was part of the group. Sources indicate that Waltz’s deputy, Alex Wong, is expected to depart. President Trump had previously addressed the incident and defended Waltz’s responses. “The important thing is that nothing occurred… The information wasn’t classified… but I always believe you must learn from every situation. I think it was extremely unfair to criticize Michael [Waltz]. He’s a good person,” Trump remarked. His departure from the White House marked the first significant upheaval of the Trump administration.
