Real Madrid strikerKarim Benzemahas been crowned UEFA Men\u2019s Player of the Year after the club\u2019s high-flying season clinching victory in both the Spanish La Liga league and the European\u00a0Champions League.<\/p>\n
The French forward, born in Lyon to Algerian parents, picked up his trophy in\u00a0Istanbul\u00a0alongside head coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was named manager of the year.<\/p>\n
The 34-year-old\u00a0team captain\u00a0was ranked top goal scorer in the 2021 – 2022 Champions League, netting 15 goals en route to the final.<\/p>\n
A trophy that rewards the hard work of several years, thanks to my club [Real Madrid] to my teammates and to the staff who help me to achieve these performances,\u201d the footballer wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n
During his acceptance speech, manager Ancelotti said: \u201cFootball is lucky to see Karim play.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world was impressed by the performances of Karim. He\u2019s not only a striker, he\u2019s not only a top scorer, he\u2019s a fantastic football player,\u201d said the Italian coach.<\/p>\n
The manager said Benzema\u2019s attitude and leadership contributed to his success.<\/p>\n
England manager Sarina Wiegman was named women\u2019s Uefa Coach of the Year after the Lionesses’\u00a0victory in the Euros.<\/p>\n
Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas won the Women\u2019s Player of the Year Award.<\/p>\n
This month, Real Madrid signed a new contract with the\u00a0French\u00a0striker to keep him at the club until 2023.<\/p>\n
