{"id":183053,"date":"2022-10-20T18:14:19","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T15:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/?p=183053"},"modified":"2022-10-20T18:14:19","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T15:14:19","slug":"rishi-sunak-favourite-to-become-next-conservative-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/rishi-sunak-favourite-to-become-next-conservative-leader\/","title":{"rendered":"Rishi Sunak favourite to become next Conservative leader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-183054\" src=\"http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/351712.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"683\" height=\"459\" srcset=\"http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/351712.webp 683w, http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/351712-300x202.webp 300w, http:\/\/wardoon.net\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/351712-625x420.webp 625w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rishi Sunak is the bookies favourite to become the next Conservative Party leader.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The process has begun to find a new party leader after Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister amid mounting pressure on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a resignation statement outside No.10, Ms Truss said she would stay on as Prime Minister until a successor is chosen via a leadership election to be held within the next week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Speaking in Downing Street, she said: \u201cThis morning I met the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThis will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plan and maintain our country\u2019s economic stability and national security.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr Sunak is currently odds-on favourite to replace Ms Truss after finishing second in the last leadership race.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mr Sunak, who was 11\/10 after Ms Truss resigned, is now at 4\/5 to become the next leader, according to the Betfair Exchange.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Commons leader Penny Mordaunt, who has urged MPs to \u2018keep calm and carry on\u2019 following Ms Truss&#8217; resignation, is second favourite at odds of 5\/2.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ben Wallace is at 11\/1, while Boris Johnson to make a sensational return as PM is at 28\/1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Theresa May (31\/1), Suella Braverman (50\/1) and both Michael Gove and Tom Tugendhat (70\/1) are amongst the leading eight candidates, according to the bookies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: \u201cRishi Sunak is now odds-on at 4\/5 to be the next Tory leader, with his odds being slashed from 11\/10 since Liz Truss resigned on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPenny Mordaunt\u2019s odds have also shortened to 5\/2 from 7\/2 in the past few minutes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJeremy Hunt has ruled himself out of the running to replace Truss, with Ben Wallace 11\/1 and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson is 28\/1 to make a stunning comeback.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rishi Sunak is the bookies favourite to become the next Conservative Party leader.
