In <\/span>Makachakalala<\/span>, the capital of Dagestan, police opened fire, resulting in <\/span>a number of<\/span> fatalities and injuries.<\/span><\/span> Local authorities reported that an armed man opened fire from the traffic police in <\/span>Slosland<\/span>, Republic of Dagestan, killing three police officers and injuring at least four others.<\/span><\/span> Dagestan leader Sergei Melikov said the attack occurred on Monday in the capital Makhachkala when police tried to stop the car.<\/span><\/span> Around 2:20 p.m., the shootout began. <\/span><\/span>The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed the time at local time (11:20 GMT).<\/span><\/span> At the scene, two attackers were shot. <\/span><\/span>The man, who was born in 2000, was <\/span>identified<\/span> by local officials, but the number of others involved was not specified.<\/span><\/span> A wider search was launched after state media reported that <\/span>additional<\/span> attackers had fled the vehicle.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Reuters confirmed that film footage had surfaced on the street alongside the police vehicle.<\/span><\/span> When the audience gathered on the scene, the shots could be heard in the background.<\/span><\/span> Along with the wounded officer and civilian, at least two <\/span>additional<\/span> attackers and a 17-year-old girl were transported to the hospital.<\/span><\/span> One passed away later and was reported to the state media.<\/span><\/span> A criminal investigation has been launched by the authorities.<\/span><\/span> In recent years, Dagestan, a region with a majority Muslim population that borders the Caspian Sea, has experienced <\/span>numerous<\/span> deadly attacks.<\/span><\/span> In March, Russian security forces said there was suspected of ISIL (ISIS) fighter jets, which are planned to attack local Ministry of Interior.<\/span><\/span> Recent violence in Dagestan follows another security operation last week when Russia’s Federal Security Agency (FSB) allegedly claimed it killed a man killed in a plot to bomb<\/span><\/span> the capital <\/span>Moskauer<\/span> and a Jewish religious site in the capital area.<\/span><\/span> In June 2024, an armed man attacked police, synagogues, and churches in the Dagestan region, killing at least 20 people.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
