Jeremy Corbyn hit the campaign trail in the north of England this afternoon wearing an ill-fitting suit jacket emblazoned with his general election slogan.

Mr Corbyn visited the seaside town of Whitby while wearing a bespoke jacket which had his ‘for the many not the few’ motto printed into a pinstripe.

The Labour leader said the dark jacket with red writing was a gift from a Labour MP candidate as he confessed it was a bad fit.

Mr Corbyn shared out a box of chips with chilly photographers beside Whitby Bandstand in the fishing hub, joking ‘chips for the many, there you go’.

He tucked into the salt and vinegar-covered treat alongside Labour’s candidate for Scarborough and Whitby, Hugo Fearnley.

He said the jacket had been given to him by Fabian Hamilton, who is standing in the Leeds North East constituency, and he was handed it on Saturday night ahead of an NHS-themed rally.

Mr Corbyn, who has previously hit the headlines for his questionable fashion choices, admitted the jacket was ill-fitting and that he would need to shrink to make it fit properly.

Mr Corbyn said of Mr Hamilton: ‘He has a friend of his who is a tailor. He gave me this jacket and it’s quite splendid.’

He joked: ‘It almost fits. I don’t know if we need the jacket to grow or me to shrink.’

Mr Corbyn then offered to share his chips, asking the waiting photographers: ‘Do any of you guys want a chip?

‘They’re really good.’

A photographer then joked that Mr Corbyn was offering ‘many chips for the few’.

Mr Corbyn replied: ‘Chips for the many, there you go.’
