A bride who weighed 120 kilos and ‘dreaded’ trying on wedding dresses has lost 55 kilos by exercising in her living room and cutting out all dairy.
Kylie Mulcahy, who is based in Wollongong, south of Sydney, used to be ‘scared’ she wouldn’t be able to find a white gown to suit her size 18 to 20 frame.
But when she began visiting bridal shops in 2018 after shredding, her 65-kilo figure easily slipped into a size eight.
‘I remember thinking if I ever got married the thought of walking into a wedding dress shop would scare me because I would never fit into anything, the people would judge me,’ the 30-year-old told FEMAIL.
‘But when I went into a store a year after losing all of the weight and I could pretty much wear any of them, it was a great feeling.’

Kylie managed to lose 55 kilos in just over 12 months in 2017, and later married the man of her dreams in a beach-side wedding in March 2019.
The gorgeous brunette said she wasn’t overweight as a teenager but steadily gained size in her 20s, despite the fact she lead a healthy lifestyle.
‘I was exercising with a personal trainer at the gym in 2016 – who wrote me a diet plan filled with protein and vegetables – and I still wasn’t able to lose weight,’ Kylie said.
She also trialled meal replacement shakes and Lite N’ Easy to shift the extra kilos.
Her efforts totalled a loss of 15 kilos but it wasn’t enough to get her below the 100 kilo mark she wanted.

In January 2017, at a total loss of what to do, Kylie visited her doctor, who went on to diagnose her with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
The hormonal disorder is known for causing obesity, issues with acne and facial hair, as well as increasing a woman’s risk of diabetes.
Kylie consulted a nutritionist to see whether there was a specific diet she should be following to manage her condition.
She was told to cut out dairy and gluten.
‘She gave me a low carb and sugar meal plan to follow so I didn’t spark my insulin,’ she said.

She also loved swimming but didn’t want to be seen at the pool in her swimwear.
So instead she scoured YouTube for workout videos, but was demotivated when she saw the taut and toned bodies of the trainers.
‘I ended up choosing Team Body Project because after a few months of watching their videos I was seeing progress,’ Kylie said.
Team Body Project have over 300 HIIT cardio, resistance, circuit, Pilates and boxing workouts and you only need a gym mat and some dumbbells to do them at home.

By December 2017 Kylie had lost a further 35 kilos and felt like herself again.
Two months later her boyfriend Adam, who had been with her throughout the journey, proposed.
She was finally going to have to face her fears in the bridal suite, but it was nothing like she thought it would be.
‘It was a relief to find my dress. It was the first one I tried on actually,’ she said.
‘It’s so cool to be able to try something on and have it fit perfectly.’
On her wedding day in March 2019 – which she was still 65 kilos at – a few of her aunties ‘cried’ when they saw her ‘looking so beautiful’.
‘The wedding was everything I could have hoped for,’ Kylie said.
