Women writers have dominated Amazon’s 2019 bestsellers lists – with Margaret, Michelle Obama and food bloggers Pinch of Nom outselling male authors.
The charts, which were published in the UK for the first time this year, feature the most read and most sold titles for both fiction and non-fiction.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth in J.K. Rowling’s series of seven Harry Potter books, tops this year’s most read fiction chart in the UK.
While Michelle Obama’s memoir Becoming is most read non-fiction title of 2019, according to the charts.
Food bloggers Pinch of Nom, with their recipe book and and the author of The Tattooist of Auschwitz also top the best seller lists.

MOST READ: FICTION
Despite being first published in June 2003, JK Rowlings Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix remains a fan favourite, as new readers come to the franchise every year. The most read lists are the first to measure the books millions of Amazon.co.uk customers are really reading and listening to by looking at the average number of daily Kindle readers and Audible listeners
The Secret Commonwealth: The Book of Dust Volume Two (left) by Philip Pullman is second on the list while the Goblet of Fire is fourth on the list

MOST READ: NON-FICTION
Michelle Obama’s memoir Becoming (right) has been a highly popular read since its publication in November 2018. It is the most read non-fiction title of 2019 in the UK. The buzz around the title was boosted by an author tour – when she which came to the UK in April. The former First Lady’s narration of her memoir also tops the all ears chart for being the most listened-to audiobook of the year
How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie (left) is second on the list, while Take Control of Your Life by Mel Robbins is fourth on the list. Simon Johnson, from Amazon UK Books, said: ‘Women writers lead our year in books chart for 2019 thanks to great writing and storytelling that people love reading, whether it be in a book, on a Kindle or listening to the audiobook.’

MOST SOLD: FICTION
Author Heather Morris was born in New Zealand and moved to Melbourne, Australia, where for years she wrote screenplays and where she was introduced to Lale Sokolov, an elderly man who, late in life, decided he wanted to tell his story. The author turned his tale of surviving the Nazi concentration camp where he first met his wife into an unforgettable and life-affirming novel. Her book, The Tattooist of Auschwit (left) is this year’s most sold fiction title. The Testaments (right) by Margaret Atwood, which won the Booker Prize this year is number four on the list
The year’s best-selling independently published novel is The Cornershop in Cockleberry Bay, written by Nicola May (right), placed third in the most sold fiction chart of the year. It’s an achievement that means Nicola, a former marketer, has fulfilled her dream of becoming a full-time author. The Rumour by Lesley Kara (left) is number two on the most sold list

MOST SOLD: NON-FICTION
Kate Allinson and Kay Featherstone (left) set up the Pinch of Nom Facebook group, dedicated to healthy recipes and slimming tips, in 2016 . Pinch of Nom: 100 Slimming Home-style Recipes (right) was a bestseller overnight when it was published in March this year. It tops the most sold non-fiction chart for the year and also leads the most anticipated chart for being the most pre-ordered title of the year. Early indications are that readers are eagerly anticipating its follow-up, Pinch of Nom Everyday Light: 100 Tasty, Slimming Recipes All Under 400 Calories, which is released in hardback on December 12th
Hinch Yourself Happy: All The Best Cleaning Tips To Shine Your Sink And Soothe Your Soul by Sophie Hinchcliffe (left), who has been a cleaning sensation this year, is fourth on the list and Mark Mason’s New York Times best selling book The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck (right) is still going strong at number five. Other books, which also made the cut were This is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay and Becoming by Michelle Obama – which have also made the most read list.
