Climate change<\/a>, plenty of rain and lush valleys have all contributed to visionary vine-growers establishing a new wine hotspot \u2013 in Wales. <\/p>\n

Thirty vineyards produce 150,000 bottles a year, some of them prize-winners and some even ordered by wine merchants in Bordeaux.<\/p>\n

 And now Wales can claim the first vineyard hotel in Britain too.<\/p>\n

Llanerch Vineyard, Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Five wines in the Cariad brand are produced at Llanerch, Wales\u2019s largest vineyard<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Owner Ryan Davies has opened the UK\u2019s first vineyard hotel at Llanerch, Wales\u2019s largest vineyard. At the former dairy farm, 12 miles from Cardiff, Davies aims to replicate the successful wine tourism of New Zealand and Australia, with tours and tastings, fine dining and superior accommodation.<\/p>\n

On offer:<\/span> Seasonal guided tours (\u00a312pp) and tastings (\u00a37). There\u2019s also a cookery school, a bistro and restaurant.<\/p>\n

Sugar Loaf Vineyards, Abergavenny<\/span><\/p>\n

This vineyard in the Brecon Beacons takes its name from the 1,300ft mountain that towers above it. There are sumptuous views across the Usk Valley.<\/p>\n

On offer:<\/span> Self-guided tours and wine tastings (from \u00a33).<\/p>\n

Cheers:<\/span> Seven grape varieties are grown, including Regent and Reichensteiner, to produce three whites, a ros\u00e9, a red, and two sparkling wines. The sparkling white Hiraeth costs \u00a320.95 and is one of Wales\u2019s best fizzes (sugarloafvineyard.co.uk<\/a>).<\/p>\n

White Castle Vineyard, Llanvetherine, Monmouthshire<\/span><\/p>\n

Robb and Nicola Merchant planted vines on a 12-acre smallholding near Monmouth and realised their dream in 2009.<\/p>\n

On offer:<\/span> The couple also hold weddings in a 16th Century croft barn at the vineyard.<\/p>\n

This vineyard, nestling on the south side of Pydew Mountain, near the formidable Conwy Castle, has been producing wine from 2015 and is now winning prizes.<\/p>\n

Cheers:<\/span> From varieties suited to the soil and weather of North Wales, the owners produce five wines, including the \u00a318 Rondo, a medium-bodied red (gwinllanconwy.co.uk<\/a>).<\/p>\n
