An interior designer has shared her best pro tips to decorating one’s Christmas<\/a> tree ahead of the holiday season. <\/p>\n

Katalin Callahan<\/a> from Baltimore, Maryland, is the founder and CEO of dbkdecor<\/a> and uses her Instagram profile, which boasts more than 55,000 followers, to share interior design tips for followers. <\/p>\n

When speaking to the Mirror<\/a>, Callahan revealed her Christmas decorating tips for the tree, saying the task is one of her favorites to do before the holiday. <\/p>\n

1. Select a flocked tree to go on display<\/p>\n

2. Avoid artificial trees with lighting already attached <\/p>\n

3. Add a pop of color in the decorations for the tree <\/p>\n

4. Alter between big and small items when decorating  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The first step for Callahan when decorating a tree is selecting the ‘perfect’ one to go on display in the home.  <\/span><\/p>\n

‘I love flocked trees,’ she said. ‘They give such a wonderful feeling.’ <\/span><\/p>\n

Flocking a Christmas tree refers to the synthetic dust or powder people can brush on the branches to give the tree the effect as if it had just come inside after a light snow. <\/span><\/p>\n

People can splurge on a Christmas tree already flocked or do it themselves, which can be achieved using a misting gun, spray, or self-adhesive powders. <\/span><\/p>\n

Callahan explained flocking will help when adding the other decorations to the tree because any color will ‘pop’ against the dusted branches.  <\/span><\/p>\n

‘No matter what decorations you choose they will give a lovely pop of color against a flocked tree,’ she said.  <\/p>\n

Artificial trees with their own lighting have become popular in recent years because they cut the decorating time down. But Callahan actually advised against purchasing those trees for one’s home. <\/p>\n

‘There is nothing worse than unpacking your pre-lit tree and discovering the lights don\u2019t work,’ she said. <\/p>\n

Opting out of the pre-lit trees allows Callahan to use her own lights to really express her ‘style and color’ for the trees that year. <\/p>\n

‘Every year they bring more beautiful Christmas light and bulb choices to the market so I like having the ability to choose my own style,’ she said. <\/p>\n

Callahan uses her Instagram profile to share interior design pictures, including ones showing off different Christmas trees to inspire followers on how they can also decorate for the holidays.   <\/p>\n

With each of her trees, Callahan chooses a color theme that will then ‘pop’ due to the tree looking like it was dusted with snow. <\/p>\n

She then also often alters between bigger and smaller items, such as using larger bows and smaller ornaments, to make for a more visually-appealing tree. <\/p>\n
