Israeli Airstrikes Kill Over 60 as Gaza Faces Escalating Starvation Crisis

Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 61 Palestinians, including women and children, as the region grapples with an intensifying humanitarian catastrophe due to a prolonged blockade.

Civilian Areas Targeted

In Gaza City, a reconnaissance drone strike hit near the Thai and Palmyra restaurants on al-Wehda Street, killing 17 people. Another strike targeted al-Karama School in the Tuffah neighbourhood, which was sheltering displaced families, resulting in 13 deaths. Additional attacks occurred in Jabalia, Khan Younis, Deir el-Balah, and Bani Suheila, causing numerous casualties, including children.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The Israeli blockade, in place since March 2, 2025, has severely restricted the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. This has led to acute shortages of food, water, and medical supplies. According to the United Nations, over 65,000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, and at least 57 people, predominantly children, have died from starvation-related causes.

International Condemnation

The international community has expressed grave concern over the situation. UN experts have warned of the potential “annihilation” of the Palestinian population in Gaza if immediate action is not taken. Human rights organizations have criticized Israel’s actions, stating that the use of starvation as a method of warfare constitutes a violation of international law.

Calls for Ceasefire

Despite mounting international pressure, efforts to broker a ceasefire have stalled. Hamas has rejected partial truce offers, insisting on a full cessation of hostilities. Meanwhile, Israel has indicated plans to expand its military operations in Gaza, raising fears of further civilian casualties and deepening the humanitarian crisis.

As the conflict continues, the people of Gaza face an increasingly dire situation, with limited access to essential resources and ongoing threats to their safety. The international community continues to call for immediate action to alleviate the suffering and prevent further loss of life.
