Two teenagers have died in a large house fire in western France that has left several others in hospital.
Firefighters were called to the property in Saint-Nicolas de Sommaire, 90 miles west of Paris, where they found the building engulfed in flames.
It is reported that the group were members of the same family gathering for a birthday party yesterday evening.

After going to sleep, the fire is believed to have started from a carpet located next to a heating stove, which then spread quickly throughout the rest of the house.
Several occupants sleeping on the ground floor managed to escape after waking during the fire.
They then tried to get the attention of others sleeping on the first floor by throwing pebbles at the windows, reports La Parisien.
Some of those trapped on the next floor were able to escape jumping out the windows.

However firefighters confirmed that they had found the bodies of two teenagers, aged 13 and 15, inside the house this morning.
Ten people, including a four-year-old child, were hospitalized after being intoxicated. by the fumes. A fireman injured his the leg during the rescue.
‘The circumstances of this accident, I think it was a chimney fire or a wood burner, I don’t know exactly,’ said Jacky de Taevernier, Mayor of Saint Nicolas de Sommaire.

Hugues de Phily, prosecutor for Argentan Province told France Info: ‘I do not have all the elements yet but it would be a fire from the stove.
‘An investigation is opened to search for the causes of death.’
